Visa’s “Million-Yard Line” is more than a coming-of-age story—it is an overcoming-of-adversity story. Julio Jones is not simply chasing a football as he journeys from a working-class neighborhood in Foley, Alabama, to his position as wide receiver for the Atlanta Falcons. Rather, he is chasing his dream of becoming an NFL star and fulfilling the promise he made to his mother that he’d make sure her days of working grueling hours at the local restaurant were numbered. Indeed, this film is a metaphor of Julio’s life; he might be a receiver on the football field but his success has been anything but passively received. Jones kept his head down and worked incredibly hard to earn his place on the field.
