I see this taking place at a visual intersection between a fashion editorial and a musical, as if the pages from a Miu Miu ad came to life on Broadway. We should give ourselves as much creative license as we can to make a theatrical version of X–it’s very clean, minimalistic, and neat. The viewer will understand that we are showing them the “essence”of a X store – without the clutter and the chaos.
The set pieces are very stylized versions of the merchandizing you would see in a real X store, and everything is painted completely black or white. The clothes that we see on the racks are the color accents to our set– every item will be carefully selected to create a minimalistic landscape that is bright, sophisticated, and visually interesting. Each set piece – the clothing racks, the displays, and the dressing room – is modular. This means they can be moved, turned around to reveal a glittery surface instead of white, used as props for dance numbers, turned into a stage for our singer.
