We open on a swimming pool as seen from directly overhead. It is nighttime and the water is calm, clear. A large black diamond has been painted on tiles at the bottom of the pool. Moments later, the water be-gins to crest and fall – obscuring the diamond – as a swimmer enters frame doing a leisurely backstroke. It’s Selena, wearing a simple but elegant black one-piece suit. Her strokes churn up the water; the out-door lights reflect off the pool’s surface as though a shifting glass prism.
Selena signs intermittently throughout the video in a restrained, distant, performance that belies the song’s lyric intensity. She’s an emotionally cool, remote Siren calling out to a man we’ve not met yet. We’ll contrast this icy exterior with the passion and sensuality of the film’s conclusion to create a sense of build and emotional reveal.
Selena climbs out of the pool and grabs a folded towel from a large rock near the water’s edge. She drapes the towel over her shoulders and walks toward a spacious, aesthetically clean, Scandinavian-influenced contemporary house, perhaps in the Hollywood Hills. We track behind her as she moves, sink-ing from just below her head to a sexy angle of her subtly swinging hips.
