I want to make a film that is going to get at the root of our creative instincts and demonstrate how fighting, a very primal human urge, can be lifted into an art form and what that evolution does to those who participate in it. Violent desperation, not repressed, finds grace in conscious expression.
At its core this film seeks a solution for the artist and creative mind interested in a martial arts practice that makes the means an end in itself. Karate offers a complex and nuanced outlet for practitioners. Through the exploration of their combat training we will seek the parallels between their practice and their personal lives.
How does the acting out of healthy anger symbolically, physically and emotionally, make way for a more dynamic and self-possessed human being? That and— what are the spiritual benefits of an art form that is associated with kicking-ass? These are the core questions we are looking to find answers to.
