The Rising Shadow is Margate’s biggest, baddest (and only) vigilante superhero. He is Robert’s alter- ego and represents everything he wants to be. On his trusty mountain bike, he roams the streets, shores and super-market parking lots of the East Kentish coast, hunting for evil-doers.
There’s just one tiny problem, he’s not particularly good at fighting crime. The Rising Shadow has no super powers and barely any regular powers to speak of either. His costume isn’t very protective (it consists of an ill-fitting pin-stripe suit topped with a tin foil eye mask), and he’s not particularly brave. All dressed up, he kind of looks like a person you’d want to beat up. But while all this is quite bad news for Robert’s superhero ambitions, it’s great for the audience, because failure often makes great comedy.
Our film will be a dark comedy about all the ways in which The Rising Shadow manages to fail at fighting crime. We’ll mix great visual comedy, in the spirit of Woody Allen’s Take The Money and Run, with honest sentiments, and bold cinematic imagery.
